School Enters Second Week Under Pandemic Protocols
Last week began the soft opening for area schools, with reopening procedures that varied for each school. At Hazen Union, students returned in shifts based on grade. Craftsbury Academy (CA) also opened with a staggered schedule. When asked if the re-opening has gone well, multiple students, faculty, staff, and administrators, all of whom asked to remain anonymous, gave mixed responses.
Hazen Union Settles Into A New Routine
HARDWICK –On March 13 of this year, Hazen Union Principal David Perrigo made an announcement on the school's public address system. Introducing himself with "this is your captain,” he told students to take home with them everything that they might need because, due to COVID-19, the school might not reopen the following Monday.

Hazen Union Re-Opening Concerns Raised
In a letter to Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union (OSSU) school boards, National Education Association (NEA) affiliate Orleans Southwest Education Association (OSWEA) expressed concerns over the OSSU’s reopening plans. In a separate letter, a copy of which was reviewed by the Gazette, Hazen Union Principal David Perrigo concurred.
