PLAINFIELD – The Twinfield/Cabot soccer programs are primed to take the pitch this coming week to kick off their 2020 soccer seasons.
On the girls’ side, head coach Seth Wilmott enters his fourth season at the helm, coming off a three-win 2019 campaign. It was Wilmott’s most successful season with the Lady Trojans in what has been an extensive rebuilding process for a program that has struggled to attract interest and numbers in recent years. Wilmott lost seniors Kaitlyn Andress, Morgan Renz, and Jordan Brimblecombe to graduation, but returns a talented core mixed with youth and experience. Senior Kayla Green returns after leading the team in scoring last season along with fellow senior Delaney Fowler, who will anchor the defense in net. Junior Eva Hebert and sophomore Aleacya Moshinskie also return in the backfield, giving the Lady Trojans an experienced defense, something they have been missing in recent years. Twinfield/Cabot will kick off the season at home against Blue Mountain on Wednesday and are scheduled to travel to Lake Region next Monday.
Head coach Peter Stratman returns for his second season to lead the boys’ program after an impressive 9-5 record in 2019. It was the most wins for a Trojan team since 2010 as Stratman earned his hundredth career win along the way. He will have the challenge of replacing six seniors lost to graduation, including goalkeeper Jordyn Holt, who was arguably the best net minder in Division 4. Senior Gavin Fowler and junior Lucas Roberts will return to anchor the offense after the leading the Trojans in scoring last season. Junior Alec Moran also returns to lead the defense. Numbers are strong once again for Stratman’s squad and depth should not be a problem. The Trojans will start the season at home (Cabot) on Wednesday in a matchup with Blue Mountain, before hosting Christ Covenant and Craftsbury Academy in Plainfield on Saturday and Tuesday.
